Nona Bowkis

Nona is a solicitor and qualified (CPID) trainer who spent 10 years giving advice to consumers, employees and debtors at Citizens Advice before joining the Lawgistics Legal Team in September 2014. As a ‘poacher turned gamekeeper’ she is uniquely placed to advise Lawgistics clients through her experience of representing ‘the other side’ in negotiations, tribunals and the County Court. In 2010, while acting as duty adviser in the County Court, Nona identified a technical defence to a claim brought against her client under the Consumer Credit Act. She successfully argued an adjournment of proceedings allowing a full defence to be submitted. The case ended up in the Court of Appeal and Nona’s client won as the Claimant had, as identified by Nona, failed to comply with the statutory requirements of the Act. This work saved a number of people losing their homes. Since coming to Lawgistics, Nona has supported many of our members and steered them towards wins against consumers in the County Court. She took the lead on the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and has been quoted in the Daily Telegraph and written articles in various trade media. She has also given presentations at Expos, been a part of the Legal Help Desk at Motor Trade Radio and featured in trade podcasts. Nona loves to win and wishes her team, Tottenham Hotspur, would start winning leagues and trophies again.
