Am I still liable if a customer complains the spare wheel won’t fit after more than a year?

We don’t use spare wheels very often and hopefully not at all.  It is therefore entirely possible that the first time a customer checks the spare wheel is when he/she has a puncture.  
If the customer is prepared to say at Court that they’ve not checked it for such a long time then the evidence points to it being the wrong wheel when the car was sold.  
Following on from that, if the spare wheel doesn’t fit, it is not fit for purpose and in such a circumstance you must provide a suitable replacement.  
Second hand is of course, absolutely fine for a second hand car.
